Please join me at the online 1455 Literary Festival, where I'll be part of the "What's Past Is Present: Historical Fiction" panel discussion about historical fiction and how it grapples with contemporary issues. My fellow panelists are Louis Bayard, Denny Bryce, and Carrie Callaghan.

I'm delighted to share that THE BEST BAD THINGS is the winner of the 2019 Shamus Award for the Best First PI Novel! Thank you to the Private Eye Writers of America for this honor, and congratulations to the other winners and nominees!

I am delighted to announce that THE BEST BAD THINGS is a 2019 Washington State Book Awards finalist! My publisher MCD/Farrar, Straus and Giroux has three books in the awards this year -- I'm so happy for Nicola Griffith and Kristi Coulter, who are finalists as well! Come celebrate with us at the awards ceremony, which will be Saturday, October 12, at the Seattle Central Library. Congratulations to all the 2019 finalists!
